Stone of the Sun is a 3D digital recreation of the Aztec Calendar Stone. I first built the base model in Autodesk Maya and then stamped the intricate motifs in Autodesk Mudbox. This process of digitization makes the details of the object more accessible across time and space.

Introduction
The Stone of the Sun is a calendar stone of the Aztec. It is 3.6 m (12 ft) in diameter and 98 cm (39 in) thick, made between 1502-1521 and rediscovered in 1790, now on exhibit at the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City.

The face and the X represent five successive creations of the world. The X outline and the four dots represent four earthquakes and is where the Aztec live. 260 days yielded by 20 named days * 13 numbers are on the first ring. The second rings have symbols of turquoise, feathers, blood drops, etc. On the third ring, there are two dragons that probably symbolize the blue sky vault.
